Advocates Wear Ribbons, Read Preamble showing Solidarity With Lawyers detained during CEC Protest

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has asked its members to wear black ribbons while appearing in court on 12 October 2026. A separate notice asks advocates to wear white ribbons on 13 October 2026. Both are marks of solidarity with lawyers who were reportedly manhandled by the police during a protest on 10 October 2026.

DHCBA notice (11 October 2026)

In a notice dated 11 October 2026, the Executive Committee of the DHCBA said it was acting in continuation of its Resolution dated 10 October 2026. That resolution condemned the “illegal detention of lawyers and excessive use of force during peaceful protests”.

The notice requests members to:

• Wear black ribbons on 12 October 2026 while appearing in court.
• Do so as a mark of solidarity with lawyers who were manhandled during the protest on 10 October 2026.
• Register their strong protest against the “excessive and disproportionate use of force” by the police against members of the legal fraternity.

White Ribbon and Silence on 13 October

A second communication refers to the SCBA’s resolution dated 10 October 2026. It says the majority of the Executive Committee members decided that advocates and members of the Bar may wear a white ribbon pinned to their coats on 13 October 2026. This is in solidarity with fellow advocates “reportedly mistreated and manhandled by the police”.

Members are also requested to gather in front of the Gandhi statue at 1:15 p.m. on 13 October 2026 and observe one minute of silence in solidarity with members of the Bar.

Preamble Reading at Delhi High Court

Separately, a reading of the Preamble to the Constitution was conducted in the lawns outside the main building of the Delhi High Court at 1:30 PM on Monday, 12 October 2026. A short, free-flowing conversation in large or small groups followed there.
